Report: Quote from Geach (1972)..."The Florence and Lilly claims are in sec. 22, 27, and 28, T. 5 S., R. 10 W. The claims are not patented but have been surveyed for patent. Their present status is unknown. The principal workings observed seem to be on the Florence claim. They consist of an inclined shaft sunk on the mineralized zone along a bedding plane that strikes N. 11 degrees E. and dips 48 degrees SE., and a short adit that intersects the shaft a few feet below its collar. The shaft is filled with water 50 feet below its collar. Mineralized material on the dump is in pieces as much as 6 inches thick and consists of jaspar, goethite, and limonite. The country rock is a gray yellowish-weathering limestone of the Jefferson Formation. Production from the property, is any, is not known." At the time of my visit, I was uncertain as to the exact location of these claims and those of the Santa Maria (Sata Maira). Tentatively, fairly recent workings driven westward into the hillside were identified as the Florence and Lilly. It looked as though the beginning cuts for an adit were being developed although no real "underground" work was done. A small (6' x 6') pond of standing water was below the lower scrape. It was not deeper than the belly of a dog. The rocks were intensely iron stained with geothite, limonite and minor copper stain on the dumps. The workings were located west of the East Fork of Bridge Gulch and a two-track dirt road leads right to them.
