Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: DILLON Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020002 Forest or Resource Area: BEAVERHEAD Owner: N Impact: L Report: Belt Shale Spring-Unnamed (BE008042) Two surface trenches, a caved adit(?), and 2 dumps are found approximately 1 mile north of the May Day Mine. This site probably explored the same shear zone as that worked on the May Day claim. Host rock is reddish-brown to brown Precambrian Belt shale. There is scant evidence of mineralization on dump and wall rocks; iron oxide staining and sparse quartz is present. An AIM sample assayed 22 ppm lead, 92 ppm zinc, 36 ppm copper, trace silver, trace gold, and 70 ppm arsenic. This appears to be a small-scale non-commercial site. Two springs are found at the site. One is in contact with dump rock and the other is down-gradient from the workings. All workings and dumps are on USFS land. A plan map of the site was made for the AIM program. |
