Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: DILLON Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020002 Forest or Resource Area: BEAVERHEAD Owner: N Impact: Report: Jack (BE004460) The Jack Mine is located approximately 1/4 mile east of the Dutchman Mine. Workings consist of at least two caved shafts, trenches, pits, and several moderately sized dumps. Total surface disturbance is about 1 acre. This mine site apparently explores mineralized veins in Precambrian Belt quartzite and shale. Lead, silver, and gold ore was produced from this mine (Crowley and Thomas, 1961). The only apparent present-day indication of mineralization is minor limonite staining on dump rocks. An AIM sample assayed 3,010 ppm lead, 410 ppm zinc, 41 ppm copper, 9.6 ppm silver, trace gold, and 3,430 ppm arsenic. No records were found listing dates of operation and/or production statistics. This site is situated on a NW-SE trending dry ridge; there is no water component. All workings are on Dillon Ranger District, USFS land. |
