Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: DILLON Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020002 Forest or Resource Area: BEAVERHEAD Owner: P Impact: U Report: Gladstone Group (BE004250) The Gladstone Group is made up of the Argenta, Gladstone, and Midnight mines. Total surface disturbance is approximately 3 acres. Workings consist of shafts, drifts, and stopes (Geach, 1972). These mines explore a fissure vein cutting the Cambrian Flathead quartzite; the vein trends N45W and dips 80NE. Principal ore minerals were gold and lead; gangue consisted of brecciated material cemented with calcite (Shenon, 1931). Cumulative reported production from this group was 3324 tons of ore which yielded 369,958 pounds lead, 8873 pounds copper, 22,447 ounces silver, and 1180 ounces gold (Geach, 1972). The mine sites are located on a dry NW-SE trending ridge; there is no water component. The site is part of a patented claim adjacent to federal, National Forest land. |
