Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020002 Forest or Resource Area: DILLON Owner: M Impact: Report: Unnamed Placer or Bon Accord BE004030 The location of this unnamed placer coincides with the patented Bon Accord placer or Davis Syndicate placer. Sassman, 1941 reported this was worked by placering and also by tunneling to bedrock at approximately 35'. A shaft was dug in 1895 in an attempt to reach bedrock followed by a 3000' drain tunnel and then a second shaft (Sassman, 1941). The claims include 90 acres of patented ground (Sassman, 1941) and probably encompass the Gulch placer and the Grasshopper placer. Operation dates span from 1885-97, 1932-38, 1939-40, 1939-75 and to 1988, as well as a short portion (Gulch placer) being actively permitted to be mined. In 1994, McCulloch included the "Bonnecord" in his mining directory, and stated it was owned by RLT Company and was operated by Del Rio Corporation of Helena. It was described as " a high-bench placer where -4 inch gravel is perched on an outcrop 100 feet above the stream. Gravels exhibit lenticular deposition from a braided stream environment. The gold is concentrated along the bedrock with enrichment in localized lenses." McCulloch, 1997. A report by John Davis in 1989, reported a finenes of at least 900 if not 950 fine, and a recoverable value of gold of $39,000,000 from 22,000,000 yards. |
