Report: Stinson (BE003895) The Stinson Mine consists of 2 bulldozer cuts, a caved adit (between the cuts), and a large dump. Total surface disturbance is about 1 acre. The Stinson explores a cross-fault in the Devonian Jefferson Formation; the fault strikes N80E and dips 40N to 70N (Geach, 1972). The fault was exposed at 2 points underground; gouge was rubbery and stained black with manganese oxide. An altered quartz latite dike was also exposed underground and cross-cut about 46' south of the fault zone (Geach, 1972). Ore minerals included lead, manganese, silver, and gold. A chip sample from the gouge zone assayed 0.50% lead, 3.30% manganese, 0.45 ounces silver, and 0.001 ounces gold. Minor limonite staining was noted on the dump rocks; brown and reddish-brown jasper was also observed and was probably part of the gangue mineralogy. Production figures for this mine are confidential; judging from the volume of waste rock in the dump, production was modest. Little information exists regarding exact dates of operation; it is known that this mine was producing in 1961 and 1963 (Geach, 1972). This dry site is situated on a south-facing hillside above a dry gulch; there is no water component. The workings are located on USFS land. Geach included a plan map of the workings in his 1972 publication.
