Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020004 Forest or Resource Area: DILLON Owner: M Impact: Report: This designation is a general term for the series of phosphate mines driven along the Phosphoria Formation southeast of Canyon Creek. The area has signs stating "Danger - Mined out area" and the lower access has a cable and berm across the road but the upper access does not. Not every opening was visited, but it is assumed that many are still open. A lower working was driven in colluvium and is still partly open and hazardous and is on BLM land. The BLM portion of the occurrence has been partially recontoured and reseeded. According to Popoff and Service (1965), this was the site of the main haulage level and loading platform. The area has been extensively stoped and at one time had at least 5 adit levels. There is still many timbers and some junk remaining. The area is dry and no waste is near the creek. |
