Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020002 Forest or Resource Area: DILLON Owner: B Impact: U Report: Bea Ann Claim BE000737 An unpatented, reclaimed mine on BLM land which once had two adits, at least one shaft and several prospect pits located at the north end an unnamed gulch. One open shaft above the reclaimed adits remains, possibly inadvertently, and contains an old hand winch approximately 10' down. The mine was located in Mississippian Madison limestone, and was supposedly associated with the Cretaceous granodiorite. It was described by Geach, 1972 as a 20 foot wide chimney, dipping 52oNW, filled with rubble of earthy iron oxides. Other minerals associated with the mine include banded nodules of calcite and black psilomelane-type manganese oxides, and fragments of quartz and jasper. The reclaimed dumps contain "earthy" dark brown limonite, trace secondary copper minerals, limestone breccia, calcite crystals and psilomelane. There is no record of production; the commodity listed is manganese. One physical hazard, no environmental hazards. |
