Report: Phosphate is hosted here by the Retort Member, Permian Phosphoria Formation, in oolitic to sedimentary pelletal apatite, according to Swanson, 1970. Swanson states a mineable thickness totalling 67.5 feet with nearly 20% P2O5. Popoff and Service's (1965) sampling ran (for 2.85') 23.4% P2O5 and 5.2' at 18.8% P2O5. Swanson hypothesized that shearing in the Greenstone area may have ruined the phosphate ore. There are two trenches: one on the north side and one on the south side of the road. The Phosphoria is exposed in each and the ore in the one on the south side of the road is extremely shattered. These workings are shown is prospects on the 7 1/2-minute quadrangle.
