Report: Quote from Popoff and Service (1965)......Inactive mines and prospects....Dry Gulch Prospect.....This prospect, on Government phosphate lands, was leased by Victor Chemical Works in 1951-1953 in the hope that it might be favorable for surface mining. The deposit was explored by bulldozer trenches and drill holes to determine grade, continuity, and depth of overburden. Much difficulty was encountered in drilling the chert that overlies the phosphate member, and core recovery was only about 28 percent. Hole 1, drilled vertically, reached the zone at a depth of 122.6 feet, and cherty limestone at 144.5 feet. The dip of the structure at this depth is 36 degrees SW compared to 45 degrees SW at the surface. The log of the hole with the analyses of the core, sludge, and calculated grade is listed in table 20. Drilling indicated the 17-foot-thick mining section to be low grade and siliceous. The lease on the property was relinquished. (See reference for Table 16 and Table 20.) This occurrence is "exposed on the northern part of the Dry Gulch syncline." p. 77. Percent P2O5 ranged from +31, +24, to +18. with a total thickness of +17.7'.
