Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020002 Forest or Resource Area: DILLON Owner: P Impact: U Report: Silver King mine is located in the Polaris mining district occurring in white and tan limestone which strikes N22oE and dips 64o NW asccording to Geach, 1972. It is a vein deposit with the vein striking N60oE and dipping 84oNW which is subparallel to the main Polaris fault (again according to Geach). The ore and gangue mineralogy is calcite, with copper and iron stained quartz with a strike length of 150' and a four foot mineralized zone containing stringers of calcite not more than six inches wide. A sample by Geach assayed 0.20% Pb, 1.70% Zn, 20.3 opt Ag and 0.02 opt Au. The vein is a narrow barren fracture with a thin selvage of yellow-stained, silicified limestone showing slickensides (Geach, 1972). There was several cuts and a short adit which was caved in 1972. Winchell (1914) reported that the adit was 1000 feet long. Geach has dates of operation from 1936 intermittently to 1959, with 84 tons of ore produced yielding 1,105 lbs Pb, 200 lbs of Zn, 75 lbs Cu, 797 oz Ag and 4 oz Au. |
