Report: Del Monte Mine BE000533 This is one of the few mines in this area hosted in granodiorite, although also associated with the Mississippian Madison Group (Geach, 1972 and Shenon, 1931). Veins strike N80oE, and dip steeply south (Shenon, 1931). The property consists of six patented claims including the Del Monte, Francis H., Bare Hill, Isabella, Maltby, and the Bonaparte (Sassman, 1941). Veins in the granodiorite have high silver content (up to 500 opt) while veins in the limestone have low silver but high antimony (Geach, 1972). Winchell (1914) reported that sulfide ore began at 80 feet depth with silver content declining at 60 feet. Ore minerals included iron and manganese oxides, sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, pyrite, polybasite, tetrahedrite, pyargyrite among others (Shenon 1931) and Geach, 1972). The mine is also associated with north and northeasterly trending faults. Workings consisted of a 253 foot shaft and a 600 foot long tunnel (Geach, 1972 and the MBMG mineral properties files). All workings have been fenced by DSL-AMRB. The mine operated from 1871 to 1941, primarily from 1935-1941). Recorded production consists of 394 tons of ore, yielding 206 lbs Pb, 228 lbs Cu, 7,397 ounces Ag and 20 ounces Au (Geach, 1972). A grab sample (PGFH-1) taken from the Francis H. shaft's dump assayed 0.41 opt Au, 1.28 opt Ag, 0.01% Cu, 0.37% Pb, and 0.08% Zn.
