Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020002 Forest or Resource Area: DILLON Owner: B Impact: U Report: Charter Oak BE000527 Workings at the Charter Oak consist of one unpatented claim with one main adit with ore bin and an upper inclined shaft; both are still open but have been locked. Shenon, 1906 stated that the ore was oxidized silver and lead minerals in a quartz/calcite gangue. According to Geach, 1972 ore was in small replacement bodies localized along a north-trending fault dipping 61o to the west. Geach (1972) reported that 506 tons of ore yielded 76,923 lbs Pb, 15,700 lbs Zn, 3,409 lbs Cu, 14,845 ounces Ag, and 20 ounces Au. Total workings are between 500 and 600 feet in length (Geach, 1972, Gilbert, 1935, and Trauerman, 1940). Although located in 1860's, the main dates of operation were from 1938-1964. Sample PGCO-1, from the upper dump, ran 0.014 opt Au, 12.2 opt Ag, 0.41% Cu, 3.18% Pb, and 1.72% Zn. There is relatively high (1395 ppm) arsenic and 1305 ppm antimony. |
