Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: DILLON Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020002 Forest or Resource Area: BEAVERHEAD Owner: P Impact: U Report: Silver Rule (BE000348) The Silver Rule workings consist of a caved adit and a small dump perched on a steep NW-SE trending ridge. Surface disturbance is less than 1 acre. Host rock at this location is Mississippian Madison limestone. Workings follow a vein or zone of dolomitization and silicification 2' to 3' wide; the vein strikes N60W and dips 20NE (Geach, 1972). Purported ore minerals included silver and lead. Dump rocks exhibit traces of iron, copper, and lead mineralization. An AIM sample assayed more than 10,000 ppm lead, 3640 ppm zinc, 891 ppm copper, 94.6 ppm silver, trace gold, and 228 ppm arsenic. This site was discovered pre-1895; the site was worked for 6 months in 1895 and then abandoned. No record of production exists for this time. The Silver Rule Mine is located on patented ground surrounded by national forest. The workings are several hundred feet above Kearns Creek on a dry hillside; no waste rock is in contact with the creek. |
