Report: Goldfinch (BE000294) The Goldfinch Mine consists of 1 open shaft (grated and locked), several caved shafts, pits, trenches, and dumps. This is a fairly large site covering several acres. The mine explores ore lenses localized along a shear zone in Precambrian or Cambrian Shale; the shear zone strikes north and dips 75E. This zone is associated with an altered andesite dike. Ore minerals were auriferous pyrite and galena in a quartz gangue; some sphalerite and arsenopyrite were also found (Geach, 1972). The ore averaged 0.66 ounces per ton gold and 7.04 ounces per ton silver (based on 3811 tons or ore produced in 1932 and 1937). The lead content was approximately 5.8% (Geach, 1972). Total production listed for this mine was 6604 tons yielding 318,689 pounds lead, 5502 pounds copper, 171 pounds zinc, 46,003 ounces silver, and 3871 ounces gold (Geach, 1972). All workings, dumps, and disturbed areas are dry at this location. The site is located on USFS land. Geach includes longitudinal and plan maps in his 1972 publication.
