Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: DILLON Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020002 Forest or Resource Area: BEAVERHEAD Owner: M Impact: U Report: Golden Era (BE000288) The Golden Era Mine is a patented claim developed by 3 shafts (now completely caved). Several moderately sized dumps, several prospect pits, and the ruins of a mill are also present at this site. The deposit consists of a mineralized shear zone in Precambrian Belt rocks (red and green shale with quartzite); the shear zone strikes north and dips 60E. A quartz vein in the shear zone was 1' to 4' wide and contained a filling of galena and pyrite (Shenon, 1931). Present-day evidence of mineralization consists of limonite staining on the dump rock. There is no evidence of surface water at this site; ground water was encountered at 118' on the southernmost shaft (Geach, 1972). This patented claim is surrounded by USFS land; the site is proximal to a spring-fed meadow. Geach includes a longitunal section map of this site in his 1972 publication. No environmental samples were collected at the site because all of the disturbance is on NF administered land. |
