Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020002 Forest or Resource Area: DILLON Owner: B Impact: U Report: Agnes Lode BE000138 There are conflicting locations for this mine. Pattee (1960) describes exploration here as consisting of a few bulldozer trenches. Geach, 1972 quotes Pattee almost verbatim. The field visit to where the aforementioned authors located the mine revealed this to be true: only 34 years later. No major excavations were noted, in fact, it was difficult to discern where this occurrence was. Schutz, 1986, however, also shows the location of this mine, probably with more accuracy. This author shows the Agnes entirely on BLM land in section 14. There is one east-trending adit located on the west-facing slope opposite the Little Hawk. It is open (caved a little at the portal) but judging by the small size of the dump, probably isn't more than 50'. The dump material is limestone with strong iron staining, locally minor copper oxidation minerals. |
